Crude
Assay DataBase (COADB) and Handbook -1995 - Overview
The HPI Assay Library (COADB)
presents crude oil assay data for 243 assays (View List) from around the world. These data include assays for 72
crude oils not available in the 1987 edition, plus updated assays
for 32 crude oils in the previous database.
The assay data are presented in the
HPI standard format (View Sample Assay), making it easy to automate refinery studies and crude oil
evaluations. Each assay is provided as a separate Lotus 1-2-3 worksheet
for use on your personal computer.

Data Source
HPI Consultants developed the database
from assays supplied by a variety of sources including national
oil companies, public and private oil companies as well as from
assays published in the technical literature.
Methodology
In most cases, several assays were
available for a specific crude oil. When one or more assays were
available, HPI selected the one which it considered the most reliable
as the basis for this database and used the other assay(s) to cross-check
the base assay and to provide data missing in the base assay. In
some cases HPI elected to disregard the data in the original assay
and to use calculated properties when the original assay data appeared
to be inconsistent or unreasonable.
The property values shown in the assays
of the database were derived from interpolating and/or extrapolating
the original assay data or calculated from other product properties
using proven correlations. These methods include correlations developed
by HPI Consultants for estimating the following properties: nitrogen
content, octane number, hydrocarbon (PONA) composition, aniline
point, octane number, smoke point, freeze point, pour point, carbon
residue, asphaltene content, and normal pentane insolubles.
Documentation
The methodology and correlations used
to develop the database are fully documented in the HPI Crude
Oil Assay Handbook.
